by Rick Chitwood

Introduction: Awhile back I received an email from someone who had approached me to be a mentor. I shared proven systems which have worked for me for years to create many six figure residual income earners. His e-mail shared that he wanted to try something new and he told me about the approach he decided to use which happened to be an approach I have seen fail many times in the past.

Today I received another email from him telling me he had found a system guaranteed to work and he wanted me to look at it. He has used this approach and was excited that he had recruited 5 people.

His email also stated that he would like to meet with me and other successful MLMers.

Following is my responce to his email.

Dear XXX,

It is really great to hear from you. I sincerely hope you find, or have found what you are looking for. Please don’t take this wrong but my interest is in sharing and promoting proven system. A proven system is a system that shows over several years that is not only produces a quantity of prospects but quality prospects that go on to build large and successful downline that provides residual income.

It must be proven to be duplicable and produce lasting and growing results. I have seen many prospecting systems come an go that generate large numbers of prospects that are gone in six months.

Check back with me in two years and show me how well your system works and the quality of residual income it has produced. Signing up 5 people does not help me evaluate the success of your system. I want to see what those five people do in the next two years. Do they duplicate the system and develop substantial lasting residual income with a large and geometrically growing downline? Those are the types of results that will interest me.

97% of the people fail at MLM because they listen to the other 97% who has never been successful. Listen to that 3% who has a history of proven success. Not those new people who think they have “a better way”.

With my current system I enrolled 23 people that grew to 4,300 in three years generating a six figure income for several levels of people, and growing exponentially on it’s own without the need for efforts from me. The success of that system speaks for itself.

I can demonstrate actual results, not promises. That is what I call a “Proven” and successful system. I have no problem sharing that system with others because it does work and is proven to duplicate and produce large numbers of six figure income earners and even seven figure income earners.

Visiting successful networkers is a very good approach to learning, and is the approach I successful used for many years to generate seven figures and 23 years of success. The difference is that you must be coachable. Talking to successful people is not enough if you don’t take their advice and follow their proven systems.

You were “featured” on my blog only to demonstrate that point. You were give proven advice that not only has worked for years and has duplicated thousands of levels deep, but is working better today than ever. You did not even consider that advice. You were looking for a magic system that had not been proven.

If you had seen the thousands of these magic approaches come and go you would understand why I don’t waste time jumping aboard for the short rides. If the system is truly good, it will last and will grow. I can wait until the system is proven. I have a reputation to protect. I only promote proven systems that work, not systems hyped to me about how great they are going to work.

I have a history of mentoring people to build six figure residual incomes within 12-18 months. I can’t afford to promote something that is not proven and take a chance of it failing like 97% of all the hype out there by people looking to make money by promoting their lead generating systems.

I offered you an opportunity to follow a proven system that I felt confident would produce you a six figure residual income within 12-18 months. You were not interested in the proven system I tried to share with you and came back with an e-book approach which I have not seen work successfully for the past 15 years.

“When action speaks louder than words, don’t interrupt”. That is one of my favorite sayings. What it means is that you should take note of the date I attempted to mentor you and see if you were able to create a six figure income within 12-18 months from that date with some other approach. If not, than maybe you should question just how great your new system really it.

You should measure the success of your system by the level of residual income it produces for you in the next 12-18 months, not how many personal recruits it produces for you. If those personal recruits don’t duplicate into successful residual income, you don’t have a network marketing system, you have a sales system which will only work for as long as you work.

I sincerely hope your new approach works for you. I have nothing to gain from your approach failing.

I sincerely want to see you and everyone else be successful. Get back to me in 24 months and demonstrate just how effective your system is. Then I will not hesitate to promote it. I promote proven systems and don’t waste people’s time with all of the new and better approaches which come and go every month. If you had seen as many as I have, you would understand my skepticism.

BTW. You probably have made my blog again. I feel my response to your excitement about another of those new approaches will make a great article to illustrate the value in taking the advice of mentors with proven success, and not attempting to reinvent the wheel and find a new approach which is better than what is proven to work.

When an approach has worked successfully for many years, that does not meant it is out dated. Saying approaches are outdated is common hype used by people trying promote an new unproven system just to make a fast buck.

Sincerely looking forward to having you report back with positive news about how successful new approach really is. If you are not successful in finding a new approach, I will always be here to help you implement a proven system that will produce the results you seek. It is never too late to start building success with a proven system.

Best to you.

I start each day reading quotes from mentors such as Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Brian Trace, etc.

I usually post at least one quote per day on Facebook and/or Twitter.

Today I read and shared a quote by Brian Tracy which, because of the way I build my teams, was especially interesting to me.

“Incorrect assumptions lie at the root of every failure. Have the courage to test your assumptions.” Brian Tracy.

I have been amazed for years at how many people will make decisions based upon assumptions rather than facts. They make decisions based upon the opinions of others who have no history of success or of making the right decisions. They make their decisions in life based upon what their friends and relatives tell them instead of asking people with the facts.

One quote from an unknown source that I have used for years is, “Accept nothing without examination. Reject nothing without examination.” That quote was in my sig line for years.

It has always been my opinion that people who will make snap decisions before they have all of the facts are not the types of people who that are usually successful. I try to identify people who make assumptions without getting the facts and sort them out of consideration as someone I want as a business partner.

I look for people who are willing to make an effort to get the facts before making a decision.

In fact, the system I have used for years is designed to identify people who make decisions without facts as quickly as possible so as not to waste a lot of time on them.

My system is to ask them a three second “opening line” to see if they are open to getting some facts. If they are open, my next step is to get them enough information to see if they have interest in getting additional information.

I always point out that they don’t yet have enough information to make an informed decision, but it is an opportunity to see if they are still open to learn more or if it simply is of no interest to them.

My next step is to schedule a time when they have 24 minutes to view a webinar where they are told they will get 95% of the answers they have to their questions. I point out that without viewing the webinar they will not have enough information to make an informed decision and that it is worth 24 minutes to get the facts before making a decision.

I am amazed by the number of people who express real excitement about viewing the webinar but will tell me they have decided it is not something of interest to them before watching the webinar.

The way I see it, one of three things has happened since the time they were excited about watching the webinar and keeping the appointment.
1 – They made some invalid assumptions without getting the facts.
2 – They spoke with an “expert” who knew nothing about the opportunity.
3 – The went to the internet to get “facts” from people who knew nothing about the opportunity and were promoting their own.

In any event, anyone who would make a decision without taking 24 minutes to get the facts is not the type of person who will be successful at any opportunity. I am disappointed that I misjudged them, but happy I did not waste more time on them.

It all goes back to my belief that 97% of the people in MLM fail because they take advice for the other 97% who fail instead of investing a few minutes in due diligence.

In my 23 years full time in the industry, I have never made a decision without doing my due diligence. I know what it means to “ass-u-me”.

One rule I would never vary from when doing my due diligence is that I insist on personally speaking to several people who are multi-six figure earners in any opportunity I would even consider. Because I insist on getting my facts from people who have succeeded, rather than people who have failed, I include the opportunity for my prospect to personally speak with as many successful people in my opportunity as they would like.

I have included many of the criteria I use in making a decision on my web site at http://www.ucantoo.com/multilevelmarketing.htm

Do Most People Fail in MLM?
by Rick Chitwood

It is a common misconception that most people fail at MLM. They don’t fail, they quit before they learn the simple and proven systems to succeed at MLM.

The failure rate in MLM is no higher than any other business. However if someone starts other businesses, such as retail sales, when they fail, they are more likely to blame themselves, the product, the market and other things. With MLM, no one wants to admit that they were responsible for not succeeding, so they blame the industry.

If you fail in MLM while others make huge residual incomes, the only difference is YOU. I have always taken the attitude that if they can do is, so can I.

Anyone can succeed in MLM, but MLM is not for everyone. If you are not coachable and willing to learn proven systems from successful people, this industry is not for you.

There are several mistakes people make which causes them not to achieve the multi-six figure incomes they were expecting. I will try to address just a few of these.

97% fail at MLM. It has been said that 97% of the people who attempt MLM fail. I don’t know how accurate this percentage is, but I am confident that if 97% of the people fail, it is most likely that they fail because they are being mentored by the other 97% who have never been successful in this industry.

There is no shortage of people out there who are more than ready to tell you how to build a successful business. Problem is that 97% of them have never personally achieved any level of success in the industry they are trying to advise you on how to be successful.

It appears that the old adage is true that “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.” Let me share a real live example of what happende during the past two weeks. I was contacted by a 19 who claimed to want my advice. We communicated for several days exchanging emails. With each email he spent more time telling me what he was going to try rather than asking for my advice. After about 10 days of him trying and failing to attract leads, he told me he had decided to write an e-book on how to attract leads. He would offer his e-book as an incentive to get people to come to his site and leave their names and email addresses. Now answer me this. How many of you really want to read a book on how to build an effective MLM business from a 19 year old who has failed at everything he attempted? He is definitely an example of the 97% who are training others. DAH!

You do not have to be among the 97% who fail. All you need do is to choose your mentor from among the 3% who achieve the success you want for yourself and duplicate what they did.

It is not hard to find people with MLM experience. However, it is much harder to find people who have a history of success in the industry. They are there you simply need to do your due diligence and look for them.

The 3% have knowledge they can share which will help you to make the right decisions. They will share some success secrets like the ones I will share here.

One of the most common misconceptions is that MLM is sales. I won’t take the time here to go into detail on the difference but I will say this. A good salesperson needs to develop sales skills. If you are a good salesperson, you may be able to recruit a lot of people, but for the exponential growth required to build the huge six and seven figures common in this industry requires “Duplication”.

When selecting someone to be one of my team member, I prefer people with no prior MLM experience and little or no sales experience. People with prior MLM experience have already learn some very bad habits from the 97%. These habits can be difficult to break. Same with people with sales experience. Although not impossible, it is a challenge to retrain them. So if you have no MLM experience, and no sales experience, and you don’t want to be a salesperson, give me a call if you are coachable an can follow simple proven systems.

You must understand that “Tools are duplicable, people are not.” You may possess great sales skills but 95% of the people you “Sale” will not possess your sales skills. And most will have no interest in learning your skills. Therefore to maximize the residual income potential of MLM, you need to learn proven system which use tools to build and support your business, not sales skills.

Tools are things like, DVD’s, Webinars, Conference Calls, 3-way Calls, Seminars, etc. Anyone can show a DVD or dial a telephone, but not everyone can make an effective sales presentation or answer the difficult questions.

How do you know which tools to use and how to effectively use them. You need to choose the right mentors who understand the importance of duplication and tools and not a salesperson who has never duplicated an exponentially growing organization.

I can go on and on offering advice on how to choose the right opportunity and tools and how to use them. However to save time, about five years ago I developed a web site specifically designed to help you with your due diligence. Check it out: http://www.ucantoo.com/multilevelmarketing.htm. It is a generic site and does not promote any specific opportunity.

Success in MLM is “simple”. I did not say it was easy, I said it was simple. To be successful in MLM is a simple matter of finding mentors who have a history of proven success in this industry and being coachable and duplicate what they did to achieve their success.

I joined MLM in 1986. The very first week in the industry I researched to identify the top income earners in that company. I contacted those people and asked them to share what they did to achieve their success. I then simply copied their proven techniques (systems). I was coachable. I did not argue with their success, I copied it.

Within eleven months, I was a top income earner with that company. I went on to be a top earner with three more companies. I was coachable and realized that each company was a little different, and those little differences could mean the difference between success and failure. Therefore with each new company I would research the top income earners and duplicate their systems. The result was that within a few years I was earning more than those who were my mentors.

Success in MLM is a choice. It is simple if you will make a commitment to learning the proper techniques.

Being coachable is essential. Don’t argue with your mentors. Their success came from the proven systems they have learned from their successful mentors and not for listening from the 97% who think they know it all.

John Wooden said, “What matters is what you learn after you already know everything.”

Find a Mentor with a history of proven success. Don’t follow someone who has not achieved the success you want for yourself. If you are intimidated by your mentor’s success rather than impressed by it, you have a common problem.

Be coachable. Don’t try to tell your successful mentor what is wrong with what they did. Learn, don’t teach.

Don’t quit. If things are not going as well as you would like, instead of blaming everyone but yourself and your technique, go back to your mentor for help to refine your own system.

My success in the industry came from the help I received from my mentors, most of which did not benefit from helping me. I made a commitment to repay my mentors the only way I know how and that is to “Pay it Forward” and help others benefit from what my mentors have taught me.

If I can help you in any way, don’t hesitate to ask. I will be honest with you, so you many not want to hear what I will have to say, but there will be no hype or false hope.

How to Handle the “NO’s”
By Rick Chitwood

Do you know what is one the most common reason why people fail in MLM? They can’t handle the NO’s. They don’t understand the value of the NO’s. One of the most important parts of your business is the NO’s. You can’t be successful without NO’s. The more NO’s you get the more yes’ you get.

Why are the top income earners in your company making more money than you? It is because they have gotten more NO’s than you, and they did not give up

You need to learn how to embrace the NO’s.

Let me give you an example. Let’s assume you will get 90% NO’s and 10% YES’. How many NO’s do you want to get. The answer is “as many as possible”.

I am going to share several examples of how I have shared the value of NO’s over the years.

Here is one example: If you speak to 1,000 people, 900 will say NO, and 100 will say yes.

Assume that after speaking to 1,000 people with a 90% rejection rate you are making $10,000 per month. Some people will mistakenly think that they are getting paid for the 100 YES’. You are getting paid for the 1,000 you spoke to. You would not have the 100 YES’ without the 900 NO’s. Therefore you don’t get paid for the YES’ you get paid for speaking to 1,000 people.
Therefore each person you speak with is worth $10.
$1,000 = 100 YES’
$9,000 = 900 NO’s
=======
$10,000 Total

So the NO’s pay you $9,000 while the YES’ pay you $1,000.

Every time you get a NO, tell yourself you just made another $10.

The NO’s are worth a lot more to your successful business than the YES’. You need the NO’s. Embrace them!

The more NO’s you get, the more excited you should get because you are getting closer to your YES’.

If you believe this, you will be motivated to get more NO’s. If you don’t believe this you will be frustrated by the NO’s.

I have a report I give out to my people. It contains 100 NO’s. I challenge them to mark of one NO every time they get a NO. I challenge them to get 100 NO’s as quickly as possible.

Some people view this as a negative approach. I view it as positive because I realize that the NO’s are a positive thing and are an important part of building a successful business.

Following is a true story.
When I started in MLM 23 years ago, I was traveling to do opportunity meetings six nights per week.

My wife of 46 years, Dianne and I have always done everything together. Even though she had no personal interest in MLM, she still traveled with me every night. She sat through each of my meetings. There was one story I would tell at every meeting. In that story I would say that if you get 1 YES out of every 10 prospects, with every NO you should get more excited because you realize that you are getting closer to your next YES.

Of course it is important to understand that 1 out of 10 is just an average. You are more likely to sign up 2 people if you speak to 20 than signing up 1 if you speak to 10. You are more likely to get 10 people if you speak to 100 than signing up 1 if you speak to 10. It is a mathematical rule called “the theory of large numbers.” The more times you flip a coin, the closer you will get to getting heads 50% of the time.

After several months of sitting through my meetings, one night on our way home from a meeting she told me she believed she could do what I do. I had a simple duplicable system that anyone could do. I told her I had no doubt she could do just as good, if not better than me and I suggested she make her list and start contacting her people Monday.
Monday she got dressed up and headed to town. When she got home she had gotten several NO’s and was beginning to be a little discouraged. Tuesday she headed to town again, and came home even more discouraged. Wednesday morning she headed to town again and got a few more NO’s.

On her way home Wednesday night she had decided that MLM is not for her. She could not handle the rejection. Less than two miles from home she was thinking about the past three days and all of her NO’s. Then she remembered what I had said at my meetings that 1 out of 10 would say yes, and how with each NO you should get more excited because you are getting closer to your YES.

She counted the number of people she had spoken with and realized she had 9 NO’s. She did not want to quit until after she had at least 10 NO’s.

Just ahead of her was the house of a friend she had not spoken with for awhile. Without really thinking, she turned into her driveway and went in to visit. This was the 10th person she spoke with. Guess what? She made her first sale.

Not only was the 10th person she spoke with a YES, but that person went on to build a good size organization and created a good amount of residual income for my wife for years to come.

From that day forward, Dianne was sold on MLM.

100 Oysters:
Finally, one of my favorite stories that I heard more than 20 years ago. It is the story about the basket of Oysters.

Suppose that you could purchase a basket of 100 Oysters and you were guaranteed that every basket of 100 oysters contained at least 2 valuable pearls.

You start opening oysters. You open 10 and you don’t find a pearl. Are you going to get disappointed and quit? Of course not. You know there are still 2 pearls in the basket, and you are getting closer to finding them.

After you open 50 oysters and have found no pearl, are you ready to quit, or are you getting more excited about the fact that you are getting closer to the 2 pearls. If you open 90 oysters and know that there are still 2 pearls in that basket, you are probably more excited than ever to open those last 10 oysters.

The more empty oysters you open, the more excited you get because you know that not all of the oysters are empty. At least two of them contain valuable pearls.

You need to approach your MLM business the same way. No matter how bad your presentation is, I don’t believe it is possible to get all NO’s.

You can’t say the wrong thing to the right person.

If you spoke to enough people with the worst approach and your sales pitch was, “You would not be interested in entering an industry where 97% of the people fail would you?” If you spoke to enough people you would find some who want to hear more.

In my case, because I understand that 97% of the people fail at everything because they are taking their advice from the other 97% who fail, I am one of those people who want to learn more about those 3% who are making HUGE multi six and seven figure residual incomes.

That is a totally different topic.

In summary, don’t focus the NO’s. Focus on the fact that you can’t get YES’ without getting NO’s. With each NO, ask yourself and your mentor if you are sharing the information properly and continue to share your opportunity with the knowledge that you can’t get all NO’s and with each NO, you are getting closer to financial independence.

With my company every good person is worth a six figure increase to my annual income. I don’t care how many NO’s I get because I realize I am only one person away from a six figure annual income increase. I know that out there somewhere is the right person, and I can’t find them if I don’t speak with them.

Fear of not speaking with that person who might provide me with a six figure income increase is much greater than the fear of getting a NO.

If you don’t speak with them, you are already accepting a NO, so the worst thing that can happen is that you validate your suspicion that they will say NO.

Don’t prejudge anyone. Give everyone you know or meet the opportunity to tell you NO. It won’t hurt you if you don’t let it.

Embrace the NO’s. Get as many as you can. You can’t get all NO’s. No one is that bad.

Following is my response an email I received from someone who was experiencing a very bad time in his financial life. I am not going to share his email to protect his privacy. I will tell you that he had a two year period where he lost his job and many financial problems led to him being homeless and losing everything he owned. Following is my reply to him.

I am very sorry to hear about your current financial situation I can totally empathize with your situation. Not only have I been there, done that, but I have seen similar situations often during my past 23 years in this industry.

Since you asked me for my advice, I will be happy to share my opinions with you. However I am not going to give you some “Hang in there” speech or tell you I am going to pray for you.

Since I sincerely wish to help you, I am going to be honest with you and share my honest opinions. You know me well enough to expect nothing less from me.

I am going to take the time here to share a few stories with you which I believe could be very beneficial and help to make my point and helping you determine where you want to go from here.

My first story is not a real live experience, but my last three stories are from my real life.

Taking advantage of an opportunity:

This is a story about a flood and an elderly lady. The rains came and the waters began to rise. The county ordered that the area be evacuated. The fire department drove around looking for people who needed assistance in the evacuation.

The water was about 6-8” deep in the streets when a truck stopped and offered to help the elderly lady evacuate to safety. The elderly lady declined their assistance stating, “I will be fine. God will protect me.”

The rain continued to fall and the water continued to rise. When the water had reached the house and covered her first floor, a rescue boat floated by. The rescuers offered to assist the elderly lady and help her to evacuate in the boat.

Again the lady refused their help stating, “Thank you, but the Lord will take care of me.”

The rain continued to fall and the water continued to rise. When the water got to the roof of the house, the old lady climbed out the upstairs window onto the roof. A helicopter searching the flood area noticed the elderly lady on the roof and dropped a rope ladder and ordered the lady to climb to safety.

Once again, the lady refused assistance stating, “God will protect me.”

The rain continued to fall and the water continued to rise. When the water was over the roof and the elderly lady was about knee deep in water, the current was so swift that she realized she could not hold on much longer. She cried out, “Lord, why have you forsaken me?”

Just then, the clouds parted and a bright light shown through down to the elderly lady. A booming voice said, “I have not forsaken you. I sent you a truck, and boat and a helicopter. What else do you want from me?”

The point is that God does not close one door without opening another. He presents each of us with opportunities every day. It is up to us to not only recognize the opportunity but to take action.

Over the years I have presented you with what I sincerely believe has been great opportunities, but you have chosen not to take action.

My Story:

I am not going to take a lot of space here to share my story because you can read my story in my blog at http://ucantoo.com. Read the articles, “Are you poor or just broke”, and “Paying it Forward”.

I will share a brief summary of my story here just to make a point.

I was the CEO of a successful computer company when we lost everything we had to a con man. We lost our home, our life savings, our business and had to pull three kids out of college. After fighting in the courts we found ourselves with over $500,000 of debt because of the con man.

That was when I was introduced to Network Marketing. Problem is that it cost $1,540 to join my first MLM. I did not have $1,540. I did not have $10. But I was not going to let the opportunity pass me by.

Because I found a way to make it happen, I went on to become a top income earner in that company and three more companies and retire with a six figure residual income. That experience has made me very empathetic to other people in similar situations and has made me want to help when I can.

My point is that where each of us are today is the direct result of how we react to the situations we find ourselves in. Where we will be in 2-5 years will be the direct result of how we react to what happens to us today.

Mississippi Story:

Bill Clinton was President. He was on the Today Show and mentioned a county in Mississippi which was the most economically depressed county in the country.

A few day later, I was on our weekly Monday morning Platinum Conference Call when the CEO was not happy about the fact that sales were dropping and he felt the Platinum’s were not working as hard as they should.

The Platinum’s began to make excuses for their drop in production and most were blaming the economy, the high lay offs and rising prices. I did not agree with their excuses, and because I was the only Platinum who’s business was growing instead of declining, I found myself on one side of the argument with all of the other Platinum’s on the other.

Finally out of frustration, I put my foot into my mouth. I told them that a down time in the economy offered a greater opportunity to the MLM industry. I told them about this county in Mississippi which was so depressed and I said that Dianne and I were going to head to Mississippi and build a business in that county to prove that the economy was not a valid excuse, and in fact presented an opportunity.

We loaded up the Motor Coach and headed for Mississippi. We had a distributor in Mississippi and that person knew people who lived in that county. She set up meeting for us for a Saturday opportunity meeting. But first we were to meet with a few people on a Wednesday night to prepare for the Saturday meeting.

We met at a beauty salon at 9:00p.m. We could not meet until after Wednesday evening church services. While Dianne was speaking to the women in the front part of the salon, I was in the back setting up for my presentation to the women.

One of the women came back to where I was to confront me. She sat down and shared her story with me. She said, “I want you to know you are wasting your time because we can’t afford the $399 cost of the business kit to get started. She said her husband of more than 20 years had run off with a younger woman; she was taking care of her daughter who was on a waiting list for a kidney transplant; to make ends meet she was driving a school bus every morning and every afternoon; she worked at the beauty salon during the day six days per week; she worked a Wal Mart on Sundays.

Instead of feeling sorry for her, I saw her as someone who really needed the opportunity I had to share. I was driving a $250,000 Motor Coach and towing a new Lincoln Towncar (LTC) on a sixteen foot trailer behind. Since she had earlier commented on the car, it gave me an idea to try to get the point across.

I asked her that if I could show here a way she could purchase a new LTC for only five $500 could she come up with the money. The only two requirements were 1) the offer was available for only 24 hours, and 2) she could not sell the car for two years. I asked could you come with the $500 by tomorrow. She said she could.

I told her that first of all, she was not going to be able to purchase a $40,000 LTC for only $500, but even if she could, she could not afford the insurance or taxes or other expenses.

Since we have established that she could come up with $500 if she saw a value, why would she want to put that $500 into something she could not afford, when she could instead invest $399 in herself and start a home business with the potential of building a six figure residual income? Why not build a business an build an income to be able to purchase the LTC.

The lady who owned the beauty salon knew a lady who’s family owned a local TV station. We were making an impressive showing in that town with our Motor Coach and our LTC. We were actually interviewed on a 30 minute TV show to promote our Saturday meeting and opportunity for the people of that county to find a solution to their financial problems. It is good for them that Dianne and I were sincere in our desire to help the people in that county and were not running a scam.

When we left town, the lady who told me she could not afford it not only purchased a $399 business kit but so did her son. In a very short period of time she was one two Gold Distributors and a Silver Distributor in that town. About 10 of them showed up at the next annual convention.

Building in that county turned out to be a very wise move on my part.

North Carolina Story:

We went to North Carolina to put on a Super Saturday Overview and Training for one of our more active distributors. After the session, I was approached by a young man. He told me he was very motivated by the presentation and felt that he could benefit by becoming a distributor and building his own business. All the time we were talking his wife and two kids were tugging at him telling him they needed to go.

He shared his story with me. He said that he had his own business teaching inline skating and an injury had made it impossible for him to continue his business. He had lost his business. They had repossessed his car, and the following week they were to be evicted from their home.

He told me that not only did he not have the $399 to purchase the business kit, but he did not even have the $45 to purchase the customer kit.

I asked him how much money he did have. He reached in his pocket and pulled out $33. He said that was his last $33 in the world. I asked him just how serious he was about doing something to make a change in his financial situation. He said he was desperate and ready to do whatever it takes.

I told him that if he were serious, and coachable and ready to make a commitment, I could help. I told him that I had trial bottles of our main product which cost $3 each, and they retail value was $6 each. I told him I would take his last $33 and sell him 11 trial bottles which he could sell and double his money. He could then use that money to purchase more trial bottles to sell and he could raise the money to invest in his business. He agreed and I gave him 12 bottles for his $33.

He went out and by the end of the day he had sold all 12 bottles. The next day he went back to his upline distributor and purchased a case of trial bottles. In the next few days he sold all of his bottles and purchased the $45 customer kit and more product to sell. The then raised enough month to purchase the business kit and went on to build a good business.

The next time I saw him was at the Annual Convention. He had a growing business and was able to afford transportation, lodging and convention registration.

He had succeeded because he made the right decision and took advantage of the opportunity when it was presented.

He did not use his desperate financial situation as an excuse for not investing in a business. Instead he used his financial situation as a reason for investing in a home business.

I know this has been a lengthy reply to your request for help, but this is a very important point in your life and I did not want to give you an incomplete answer.

Over the years I have offered to help you. I have offered to get you started at no cost to you and to help you build a successful residual income. I have offered to travel to you for training and to share the opportunity with your prospects.

For whatever reason, you have chosen not to accept my offers of help. I am confident I can help you as I have helped so many others. But it will take a commitment on your part. I will not do your work for you but I will help you. I am willing to make a commitment to the success of your business equal to the commitment you are willing to make to the success of your business. You must be coachable, and willing to follow a simple proven system followed by the top income earners in my company. You must be ready to make a commitment and not make excuses.

If the timing is right for you now, contact me. If the timing is not right, I will be here for you next year or whenever the timing is right.

I hope you accept this email in the positive way in which it was intended and nothing I have said has offended you.

I look forward to hearing from you and regardless of your decision, I wish you the very best.

God bless.

What to look for in an MLM

by Rick Chitwood

I have been full time in the MLM industry for 23 years and have been a top income earner in four different companies. I want to share (“Pay Forward”), what I have learned in hopes of helping others to duplicate my success.

Success is not an accident. Anyone who has been full time in ANY industry and has been successful must have learned some good techniques to help them be successful.

There are many stories about people who have failed in MLM. The major reason for their failures is making the wrong choices and not following the proven systems for success. It has been said that 97% of the people fail at MLM. If that is true, it is because 97% of the people listen to and follow the advice of the other 97% who have never been successful.

The choice is yours. Do you want to be amoung the 97% who fail, or would you prefer to be in the upper 3% that experience great success. To be in that upper 3%, it is necessary to make the right choices.

In an effort to help you make the right decision, I have developed a web site. On this site I share the things I consider when I am making a choice of a new opportunity.

The information I share on the web site is not the only things to consider and there are people who would not agree with my recommendations. However, what I do share, though not the only way, is proven to work. I don’t share opinions there, I share what has proven to work for me and my mentors and those I have mentored.

This is a generic site and does not promote any individual company. Just what to consider when choosing ANY company.

The web site is http://www.ucantoo.com/multilevelmarketing.htm

I hope this can help you.

If you are not happy with your growth with your existing company, compare your company against the information in the web site. Perhaps you will learn why.

If you are looking for a company and know what you want out of the company, check out the following website http://ucantoo.com/requestinfoform.htm. By compleating the questionaire there I can use that information to help you find a company that may fit your goals.

I hope you benefit from this information.

by Rick Chitwood

What I want to share in this article is something that is very important but not understood by a large percentage of the people in Network Marketing It is the basic foundation upon which this great industry was established. The basics of Network Marketing is understanding that much more can be accomplished by a team working together than can ever be achieved by the individual sums of the people in the team

There is an old saying that TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More.

A team generates a synergy that can’t be matched by individuals. My favorite example of synergy is that a horse can pull 900 pounds. A team of two horses can pull 3,600 pounds. It is a simple concept.

America’s first Billionaire, J. Paul Getty, said, “I would much rather benefit from 1% of the efforts of 100 people than 100% from the efforts of myself.”

I have learned that there are two types of Mentalities in Network Marketing. There is the Sales Mentality and there is the Networking Mentality. The sales mentality wants paid for their efforts. The network mentality wants paid for the synergistic efforts of their team.

There are also different companies with different comp plans. The comp plan makes a major difference. You must understand what you want and find a company with a comp plan designed to provide you with the goals you set for yourself.

It is important to understand that regardless of what percentage of the profits from sale of your companies products is fed into the comp plan, you can only spend a penny one time. If you have the sales mentality and you want paid big for your personal efforts, choose a comp plan where a major portion of the commissions are paid to the person making the sale instead of to your team.

If you have a networking mentality you want a lesser amount for your personal efforts, and the major portion of the comp plan to pay the team.

EXAMPLE:Let me share an example that illustrates two different approaches to the same challenge. First some basics. Income is paid from the profits of the sale of products or services. If you have a goal you can use simple math to determine how many new sales must be generated to provide the income needed to reach your goal. Your goal can be a new car, donating to your church, paying off credit card bills, etc. Once you determine your goal, you simply determine how many new distributors you need on your team to reach that goal.

For illustration purposes, let’s assume we have determined that you need the commissions generated from 100 new people added to your organization. There are two different approaches that can be used to find those 100 new people. Sales Mentality = Determine a way for you to personally enroll 100 new people. You may purchase leads, advertise in some media forum, or you have many other options to choose from (most of which have associated costs.) You go out and personally sign up 100 new people.

Network Marketing Mentality = Help 10 of your hardest working team members each recruit 10 new people. It’s just that simple. Help 10 people recruit 10 new people. Each approach has the same results. The sales approach requires you to recruit 100 new people. The networking approach does not require you to personally sign up any new people.

You focus your efforts on helping 10 people instead focusing your efforts on personal recruiting. There is another major benefit from the networking approach. With the sales approach you personally benefit. With the networking approach you and ten people on your team benefit. Eleven people benefit.

You are getting paid for helping others be successful instead of helping yourself be successful.Zig Zigler has said, “You can have anything you want in life if you just help enough other people get what they want.” I have been a top income earner in four different companies. In each company I was not a big recruiter. My focus was on recruiting a few people until I found someone who was coachable and willing to follow a simple proven system using proven tools and helping them to succeed. My focus was on helping others achieve success and I did not need to worry about my success.

I was not a top income earner because I was a top recruiter. I was a top income earner because I had helped more of my team member achieve a six figure incomes than others. I realized that the more successful people I had on my team, the more success would automatically come my way.I got into Network Marketing for residual income.

I was sold on the idea of working hard to establish a team of successful people then continuing to get paid for the profits generated by that team long after I have decided to retire and move to the beach. If your income is the results of your efforts, it will very likely dry up when you quit working. If you have successful people on your team, the income is less likely to dry up when you quit. And it is more likely to continue to grow after you retire.

What I have learned from my mentors, and what I teach to my team is to focus your efforts on helping your team members, and less effort recruiting new people.
