How to Handle the “NO’s”
By Rick Chitwood
Do you know what is one the most common reason why people fail in MLM? They can’t handle the NO’s. They don’t understand the value of the NO’s. One of the most important parts of your business is the NO’s. You can’t be successful without NO’s. The more NO’s you get the more yes’ you get.
Why are the top income earners in your company making more money than you? It is because they have gotten more NO’s than you, and they did not give up
You need to learn how to embrace the NO’s.
Let me give you an example. Let’s assume you will get 90% NO’s and 10% YES’. How many NO’s do you want to get. The answer is “as many as possible”.
I am going to share several examples of how I have shared the value of NO’s over the years.
Here is one example: If you speak to 1,000 people, 900 will say NO, and 100 will say yes.
Assume that after speaking to 1,000 people with a 90% rejection rate you are making $10,000 per month. Some people will mistakenly think that they are getting paid for the 100 YES’. You are getting paid for the 1,000 you spoke to. You would not have the 100 YES’ without the 900 NO’s. Therefore you don’t get paid for the YES’ you get paid for speaking to 1,000 people.
Therefore each person you speak with is worth $10.
$1,000 = 100 YES’
$9,000 = 900 NO’s
=======
$10,000 Total
So the NO’s pay you $9,000 while the YES’ pay you $1,000.
Every time you get a NO, tell yourself you just made another $10.
The NO’s are worth a lot more to your successful business than the YES’. You need the NO’s. Embrace them!
The more NO’s you get, the more excited you should get because you are getting closer to your YES’.
If you believe this, you will be motivated to get more NO’s. If you don’t believe this you will be frustrated by the NO’s.
I have a report I give out to my people. It contains 100 NO’s. I challenge them to mark of one NO every time they get a NO. I challenge them to get 100 NO’s as quickly as possible.
Some people view this as a negative approach. I view it as positive because I realize that the NO’s are a positive thing and are an important part of building a successful business.
Following is a true story.
When I started in MLM 23 years ago, I was traveling to do opportunity meetings six nights per week.
My wife of 46 years, Dianne and I have always done everything together. Even though she had no personal interest in MLM, she still traveled with me every night. She sat through each of my meetings. There was one story I would tell at every meeting. In that story I would say that if you get 1 YES out of every 10 prospects, with every NO you should get more excited because you realize that you are getting closer to your next YES.
Of course it is important to understand that 1 out of 10 is just an average. You are more likely to sign up 2 people if you speak to 20 than signing up 1 if you speak to 10. You are more likely to get 10 people if you speak to 100 than signing up 1 if you speak to 10. It is a mathematical rule called “the theory of large numbers.” The more times you flip a coin, the closer you will get to getting heads 50% of the time.
After several months of sitting through my meetings, one night on our way home from a meeting she told me she believed she could do what I do. I had a simple duplicable system that anyone could do. I told her I had no doubt she could do just as good, if not better than me and I suggested she make her list and start contacting her people Monday.
Monday she got dressed up and headed to town. When she got home she had gotten several NO’s and was beginning to be a little discouraged. Tuesday she headed to town again, and came home even more discouraged. Wednesday morning she headed to town again and got a few more NO’s.
On her way home Wednesday night she had decided that MLM is not for her. She could not handle the rejection. Less than two miles from home she was thinking about the past three days and all of her NO’s. Then she remembered what I had said at my meetings that 1 out of 10 would say yes, and how with each NO you should get more excited because you are getting closer to your YES.
She counted the number of people she had spoken with and realized she had 9 NO’s. She did not want to quit until after she had at least 10 NO’s.
Just ahead of her was the house of a friend she had not spoken with for awhile. Without really thinking, she turned into her driveway and went in to visit. This was the 10th person she spoke with. Guess what? She made her first sale.
Not only was the 10th person she spoke with a YES, but that person went on to build a good size organization and created a good amount of residual income for my wife for years to come.
From that day forward, Dianne was sold on MLM.
100 Oysters:
Finally, one of my favorite stories that I heard more than 20 years ago. It is the story about the basket of Oysters.
Suppose that you could purchase a basket of 100 Oysters and you were guaranteed that every basket of 100 oysters contained at least 2 valuable pearls.
You start opening oysters. You open 10 and you don’t find a pearl. Are you going to get disappointed and quit? Of course not. You know there are still 2 pearls in the basket, and you are getting closer to finding them.
After you open 50 oysters and have found no pearl, are you ready to quit, or are you getting more excited about the fact that you are getting closer to the 2 pearls. If you open 90 oysters and know that there are still 2 pearls in that basket, you are probably more excited than ever to open those last 10 oysters.
The more empty oysters you open, the more excited you get because you know that not all of the oysters are empty. At least two of them contain valuable pearls.
You need to approach your MLM business the same way. No matter how bad your presentation is, I don’t believe it is possible to get all NO’s.
You can’t say the wrong thing to the right person.
If you spoke to enough people with the worst approach and your sales pitch was, “You would not be interested in entering an industry where 97% of the people fail would you?” If you spoke to enough people you would find some who want to hear more.
In my case, because I understand that 97% of the people fail at everything because they are taking their advice from the other 97% who fail, I am one of those people who want to learn more about those 3% who are making HUGE multi six and seven figure residual incomes.
That is a totally different topic.
In summary, don’t focus the NO’s. Focus on the fact that you can’t get YES’ without getting NO’s. With each NO, ask yourself and your mentor if you are sharing the information properly and continue to share your opportunity with the knowledge that you can’t get all NO’s and with each NO, you are getting closer to financial independence.
With my company every good person is worth a six figure increase to my annual income. I don’t care how many NO’s I get because I realize I am only one person away from a six figure annual income increase. I know that out there somewhere is the right person, and I can’t find them if I don’t speak with them.
Fear of not speaking with that person who might provide me with a six figure income increase is much greater than the fear of getting a NO.
If you don’t speak with them, you are already accepting a NO, so the worst thing that can happen is that you validate your suspicion that they will say NO.
Don’t prejudge anyone. Give everyone you know or meet the opportunity to tell you NO. It won’t hurt you if you don’t let it.
Embrace the NO’s. Get as many as you can. You can’t get all NO’s. No one is that bad.

Taking Advantage of Opportunities
by Rick Chitwood
Following is my response an email I received from someone who was experiencing a very bad time in his financial life. I am not going to share his email to protect his privacy. I will tell you that he had a two year period where he lost his job and many financial problems led to him being homeless and losing everything he owned. Following is my reply to him.
I am very sorry to hear about your current financial situation I can totally empathize with your situation. Not only have I been there, done that, but I have seen similar situations often during my past 23 years in this industry.
Since you asked me for my advice, I will be happy to share my opinions with you. However I am not going to give you some “Hang in there” speech or tell you I am going to pray for you.
Since I sincerely wish to help you, I am going to be honest with you and share my honest opinions. You know me well enough to expect nothing less from me.
I am going to take the time here to share a few stories with you which I believe could be very beneficial and help to make my point and helping you determine where you want to go from here.
My first story is not a real live experience, but my last three stories are from my real life.
Taking advantage of an opportunity:
This is a story about a flood and an elderly lady. The rains came and the waters began to rise. The county ordered that the area be evacuated. The fire department drove around looking for people who needed assistance in the evacuation.
The water was about 6-8” deep in the streets when a truck stopped and offered to help the elderly lady evacuate to safety. The elderly lady declined their assistance stating, “I will be fine. God will protect me.”
The rain continued to fall and the water continued to rise. When the water had reached the house and covered her first floor, a rescue boat floated by. The rescuers offered to assist the elderly lady and help her to evacuate in the boat.
Again the lady refused their help stating, “Thank you, but the Lord will take care of me.”
The rain continued to fall and the water continued to rise. When the water got to the roof of the house, the old lady climbed out the upstairs window onto the roof. A helicopter searching the flood area noticed the elderly lady on the roof and dropped a rope ladder and ordered the lady to climb to safety.
Once again, the lady refused assistance stating, “God will protect me.”
The rain continued to fall and the water continued to rise. When the water was over the roof and the elderly lady was about knee deep in water, the current was so swift that she realized she could not hold on much longer. She cried out, “Lord, why have you forsaken me?”
Just then, the clouds parted and a bright light shown through down to the elderly lady. A booming voice said, “I have not forsaken you. I sent you a truck, and boat and a helicopter. What else do you want from me?”
The point is that God does not close one door without opening another. He presents each of us with opportunities every day. It is up to us to not only recognize the opportunity but to take action.
Over the years I have presented you with what I sincerely believe has been great opportunities, but you have chosen not to take action.
My Story:
I am not going to take a lot of space here to share my story because you can read my story in my blog at http://ucantoo.com. Read the articles, “Are you poor or just broke”, and “Paying it Forward”.
I will share a brief summary of my story here just to make a point.
I was the CEO of a successful computer company when we lost everything we had to a con man. We lost our home, our life savings, our business and had to pull three kids out of college. After fighting in the courts we found ourselves with over $500,000 of debt because of the con man.
That was when I was introduced to Network Marketing. Problem is that it cost $1,540 to join my first MLM. I did not have $1,540. I did not have $10. But I was not going to let the opportunity pass me by.
Because I found a way to make it happen, I went on to become a top income earner in that company and three more companies and retire with a six figure residual income. That experience has made me very empathetic to other people in similar situations and has made me want to help when I can.
My point is that where each of us are today is the direct result of how we react to the situations we find ourselves in. Where we will be in 2-5 years will be the direct result of how we react to what happens to us today.
Mississippi Story:
Bill Clinton was President. He was on the Today Show and mentioned a county in Mississippi which was the most economically depressed county in the country.
A few day later, I was on our weekly Monday morning Platinum Conference Call when the CEO was not happy about the fact that sales were dropping and he felt the Platinum’s were not working as hard as they should.
The Platinum’s began to make excuses for their drop in production and most were blaming the economy, the high lay offs and rising prices. I did not agree with their excuses, and because I was the only Platinum who’s business was growing instead of declining, I found myself on one side of the argument with all of the other Platinum’s on the other.
Finally out of frustration, I put my foot into my mouth. I told them that a down time in the economy offered a greater opportunity to the MLM industry. I told them about this county in Mississippi which was so depressed and I said that Dianne and I were going to head to Mississippi and build a business in that county to prove that the economy was not a valid excuse, and in fact presented an opportunity.
We loaded up the Motor Coach and headed for Mississippi. We had a distributor in Mississippi and that person knew people who lived in that county. She set up meeting for us for a Saturday opportunity meeting. But first we were to meet with a few people on a Wednesday night to prepare for the Saturday meeting.
We met at a beauty salon at 9:00p.m. We could not meet until after Wednesday evening church services. While Dianne was speaking to the women in the front part of the salon, I was in the back setting up for my presentation to the women.
One of the women came back to where I was to confront me. She sat down and shared her story with me. She said, “I want you to know you are wasting your time because we can’t afford the $399 cost of the business kit to get started. She said her husband of more than 20 years had run off with a younger woman; she was taking care of her daughter who was on a waiting list for a kidney transplant; to make ends meet she was driving a school bus every morning and every afternoon; she worked at the beauty salon during the day six days per week; she worked a Wal Mart on Sundays.
Instead of feeling sorry for her, I saw her as someone who really needed the opportunity I had to share. I was driving a $250,000 Motor Coach and towing a new Lincoln Towncar (LTC) on a sixteen foot trailer behind. Since she had earlier commented on the car, it gave me an idea to try to get the point across.
I asked her that if I could show here a way she could purchase a new LTC for only five $500 could she come up with the money. The only two requirements were 1) the offer was available for only 24 hours, and 2) she could not sell the car for two years. I asked could you come with the $500 by tomorrow. She said she could.
I told her that first of all, she was not going to be able to purchase a $40,000 LTC for only $500, but even if she could, she could not afford the insurance or taxes or other expenses.
Since we have established that she could come up with $500 if she saw a value, why would she want to put that $500 into something she could not afford, when she could instead invest $399 in herself and start a home business with the potential of building a six figure residual income? Why not build a business an build an income to be able to purchase the LTC.
The lady who owned the beauty salon knew a lady who’s family owned a local TV station. We were making an impressive showing in that town with our Motor Coach and our LTC. We were actually interviewed on a 30 minute TV show to promote our Saturday meeting and opportunity for the people of that county to find a solution to their financial problems. It is good for them that Dianne and I were sincere in our desire to help the people in that county and were not running a scam.
When we left town, the lady who told me she could not afford it not only purchased a $399 business kit but so did her son. In a very short period of time she was one two Gold Distributors and a Silver Distributor in that town. About 10 of them showed up at the next annual convention.
Building in that county turned out to be a very wise move on my part.
North Carolina Story:
We went to North Carolina to put on a Super Saturday Overview and Training for one of our more active distributors. After the session, I was approached by a young man. He told me he was very motivated by the presentation and felt that he could benefit by becoming a distributor and building his own business. All the time we were talking his wife and two kids were tugging at him telling him they needed to go.
He shared his story with me. He said that he had his own business teaching inline skating and an injury had made it impossible for him to continue his business. He had lost his business. They had repossessed his car, and the following week they were to be evicted from their home.
He told me that not only did he not have the $399 to purchase the business kit, but he did not even have the $45 to purchase the customer kit.
I asked him how much money he did have. He reached in his pocket and pulled out $33. He said that was his last $33 in the world. I asked him just how serious he was about doing something to make a change in his financial situation. He said he was desperate and ready to do whatever it takes.
I told him that if he were serious, and coachable and ready to make a commitment, I could help. I told him that I had trial bottles of our main product which cost $3 each, and they retail value was $6 each. I told him I would take his last $33 and sell him 11 trial bottles which he could sell and double his money. He could then use that money to purchase more trial bottles to sell and he could raise the money to invest in his business. He agreed and I gave him 12 bottles for his $33.
He went out and by the end of the day he had sold all 12 bottles. The next day he went back to his upline distributor and purchased a case of trial bottles. In the next few days he sold all of his bottles and purchased the $45 customer kit and more product to sell. The then raised enough month to purchase the business kit and went on to build a good business.
The next time I saw him was at the Annual Convention. He had a growing business and was able to afford transportation, lodging and convention registration.
He had succeeded because he made the right decision and took advantage of the opportunity when it was presented.
He did not use his desperate financial situation as an excuse for not investing in a business. Instead he used his financial situation as a reason for investing in a home business.
I know this has been a lengthy reply to your request for help, but this is a very important point in your life and I did not want to give you an incomplete answer.
Over the years I have offered to help you. I have offered to get you started at no cost to you and to help you build a successful residual income. I have offered to travel to you for training and to share the opportunity with your prospects.
For whatever reason, you have chosen not to accept my offers of help. I am confident I can help you as I have helped so many others. But it will take a commitment on your part. I will not do your work for you but I will help you. I am willing to make a commitment to the success of your business equal to the commitment you are willing to make to the success of your business. You must be coachable, and willing to follow a simple proven system followed by the top income earners in my company. You must be ready to make a commitment and not make excuses.
If the timing is right for you now, contact me. If the timing is not right, I will be here for you next year or whenever the timing is right.
I hope you accept this email in the positive way in which it was intended and nothing I have said has offended you.
I look forward to hearing from you and regardless of your decision, I wish you the very best.
God bless.

I have been full time in the MLM industry for 23 years and have been a top income earner in four different companies. I want to share (“Pay Forward”), what I have learned in hopes of helping others to duplicate my success.
Success is not an accident. Anyone who has been full time in ANY industry and has been successful must have learned some good techniques to help them be successful.
There are many stories about people who have failed in MLM. The major reason for their failures is making the wrong choices and not following the proven systems for success. It has been said that 97% of the people fail at MLM. If that is true, it is because 97% of the people listen to and follow the advice of the other 97% who have never been successful.
The choice is yours. Do you want to be amoung the 97% who fail, or would you prefer to be in the upper 3% that experience great success. To be in that upper 3%, it is necessary to make the right choices.
In an effort to help you make the right decision, I have developed a web site. On this site I share the things I consider when I am making a choice of a new opportunity.
The information I share on the web site is not the only things to consider and there are people who would not agree with my recommendations. However, what I do share, though not the only way, is proven to work. I don’t share opinions there, I share what has proven to work for me and my mentors and those I have mentored.
This is a generic site and does not promote any individual company. Just what to consider when choosing ANY company.
The web site is http://www.ucantoo.com/multilevelmarketing.htm
I hope this can help you.
If you are not happy with your growth with your existing company, compare your company against the information in the web site. Perhaps you will learn why.
If you are looking for a company and know what you want out of the company, check out the following website http://ucantoo.com/requestinfoform.htm. By compleating the questionaire there I can use that information to help you find a company that may fit your goals.
I hope you benefit from this information.

What I want to share in this article is something that is very important but not understood by a large percentage of the people in Network Marketing It is the basic foundation upon which this great industry was established. The basics of Network Marketing is understanding that much more can be accomplished by a team working together than can ever be achieved by the individual sums of the people in the team
There is an old saying that TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More.
A team generates a synergy that can’t be matched by individuals. My favorite example of synergy is that a horse can pull 900 pounds. A team of two horses can pull 3,600 pounds. It is a simple concept.
America’s first Billionaire, J. Paul Getty, said, “I would much rather benefit from 1% of the efforts of 100 people than 100% from the efforts of myself.”
I have learned that there are two types of Mentalities in Network Marketing. There is the Sales Mentality and there is the Networking Mentality. The sales mentality wants paid for their efforts. The network mentality wants paid for the synergistic efforts of their team.
There are also different companies with different comp plans. The comp plan makes a major difference. You must understand what you want and find a company with a comp plan designed to provide you with the goals you set for yourself.
It is important to understand that regardless of what percentage of the profits from sale of your companies products is fed into the comp plan, you can only spend a penny one time. If you have the sales mentality and you want paid big for your personal efforts, choose a comp plan where a major portion of the commissions are paid to the person making the sale instead of to your team.
If you have a networking mentality you want a lesser amount for your personal efforts, and the major portion of the comp plan to pay the team.
EXAMPLE:Let me share an example that illustrates two different approaches to the same challenge. First some basics. Income is paid from the profits of the sale of products or services. If you have a goal you can use simple math to determine how many new sales must be generated to provide the income needed to reach your goal. Your goal can be a new car, donating to your church, paying off credit card bills, etc. Once you determine your goal, you simply determine how many new distributors you need on your team to reach that goal.
For illustration purposes, let’s assume we have determined that you need the commissions generated from 100 new people added to your organization. There are two different approaches that can be used to find those 100 new people. Sales Mentality = Determine a way for you to personally enroll 100 new people. You may purchase leads, advertise in some media forum, or you have many other options to choose from (most of which have associated costs.) You go out and personally sign up 100 new people.
Network Marketing Mentality = Help 10 of your hardest working team members each recruit 10 new people. It’s just that simple. Help 10 people recruit 10 new people. Each approach has the same results. The sales approach requires you to recruit 100 new people. The networking approach does not require you to personally sign up any new people.
You focus your efforts on helping 10 people instead focusing your efforts on personal recruiting. There is another major benefit from the networking approach. With the sales approach you personally benefit. With the networking approach you and ten people on your team benefit. Eleven people benefit.
You are getting paid for helping others be successful instead of helping yourself be successful.Zig Zigler has said, “You can have anything you want in life if you just help enough other people get what they want.” I have been a top income earner in four different companies. In each company I was not a big recruiter. My focus was on recruiting a few people until I found someone who was coachable and willing to follow a simple proven system using proven tools and helping them to succeed. My focus was on helping others achieve success and I did not need to worry about my success.
I was not a top income earner because I was a top recruiter. I was a top income earner because I had helped more of my team member achieve a six figure incomes than others. I realized that the more successful people I had on my team, the more success would automatically come my way.I got into Network Marketing for residual income.
I was sold on the idea of working hard to establish a team of successful people then continuing to get paid for the profits generated by that team long after I have decided to retire and move to the beach. If your income is the results of your efforts, it will very likely dry up when you quit working. If you have successful people on your team, the income is less likely to dry up when you quit. And it is more likely to continue to grow after you retire.
What I have learned from my mentors, and what I teach to my team is to focus your efforts on helping your team members, and less effort recruiting new people.

Power of Duplication in MLM
by Rick Chitwood
The whole concept of MLM is that you leverage your time and efforts by helping others duplicate your efforts and you share in the profits generated by the system and tools you use and from the duplication of your systems and tools by your associates.
You may be a great sales person and be a great public speaker but that is not duplicable. 95% of the people you sign up will not posses your sales and public speaking skills and will have no desire of learning to do so. One of the most common comments from prospects is, “I don’t like selling.”
You are limited on your abilities to build a huge successful business. For example, suppose you can only present your opportunity to 10 people per day. Assume that 20% of the people you present your opportunity join you with the desire to build a successful business. If you sign up people five days per week, you will sign up 10 new people per week or 520 new people per year. If you make $2 per month on each product purchased, that would pay you $12,480 per year.
That may seem like a good annual income to some people, but I am not interested in less than that per week. No matter how good a sales person I am, I can’t do more which means my income potential is limited. [Let me point out that depending upon your product and recruiting techniques, you may be able to sign up more or less people. This is only an example. Insert your own figures and you will see that the concept works. This is for demonstration purposes.]
Now want if instead of spending all of your time recruiting new people, you use duplication. Let’s assume that you spend 25% of your time recruiting and 75% of your time teaching others to duplicate what you do.With this assumption you average 2 sign ups per week. If you dupliate your system, those 2 people will each sign up 2 new people per week. If you teach them your system and how to duplicate, each of those can sign up 2 people.
Let’s carry this example 4 levels deep. You will sign up 2 people per week which is 104 per year. Assuming that only 1 in 10 will duplicate what you do, those 104 people on your first level will generate 1081 people on your second level . 10% of them will in turn generate 11,248 people on your third level: 20,312.5 on level four. Assume you only earn an average of only $.25 per month on the volume from each of these 116,958 you would earn $350,957 per year.
Is that possible? Yes it is. Lots of people are doing it today.
If you can’t even imagine $350,957 per year, then if we reduce that by 80% you would still be making $70,191 per year.
Now would you rather be making $12,480 per year from 100% of your recruiting efforts, or $70,191 per year from 25% of your efforts?
That is what Network Marketing is all about.
This can only happen with Duplication.
If you build your business by making presentations and answering questions, your prospect may become a customer, but many of them can not see themselves making the presentations and don’t think they can learn enough to be able to answer all of the questions they get.
What is duplication? People are not duplicable. Regardles of how good you are as a salesperson, 95% of your recruits can’t learn to do what you do.
Tools are duplicable. What if instead of making sales presentation to show your opportunity, you use tools to show your opportunity? Tools are CD’s, DVD’s, Videos, brochures, recorded messages, Webinars, web sites, 3-way calls, etc.
If you build your business with these tools, your business partners can use the same tools to duplicate your success.
With my opportunity, you are not required to make a presentation or answer a question. You use the tools to make the presentations and answer the questions. This is 100% duplicable. A monkey with a DVD and a note around his neck can build a successful business.
MLM is NOT Sales. MLM is Duplication of how to get information to others.
I hope this will help some people to duplicate the success Dianne and I have achieved. We have been top income earners in multiple companies. Not because we are good recruiters or presenters, but because we are coachable and have learn to duplicate what successful people do and not try to reinvent the wheel.

7 Reasons Why Network Marketing is the Career of the Future
by AnnaLaura Brown

Whether or not you are currently in network marketing, or have been involved with network marketing in the past, you have no doubt heard about it. In the past few years network marketing has become more popular. Celebrities such as Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump have also endorsed it. Furthermore, network marketing is becoming a more popular career choice by many people including eighteen year olds who have just graduated from high school. If you are wondering about network marketing and why it might be the right career choice for you, let me share with you seven reasons why network marketing is becoming so popular.
1. Network marketing offers flexibility. A traditional job simply does not offer the freedom and flexibility that you can have when you have your own network marketing business. You can work from virtually anywhere you have a computer and a phone.
