Our MLM Lifestyle
by Rick Chitwood
Success is determined by whether or not you live the lifestyle you desire. If your lifestyle goals includes going to a J.O.B. and you get to go to a J.O.B. and all of the other things you want to do, then you are a success.
Why I can’t have a J.O.B.
For the past 31 years, Dianne and I have been living the lifestyle we want. If I had had a J.O.B. that would not have been possible given our personal chosen lifestyle.
Following is an example of how we actually spend one year of our life.
We love to travel. I am an army brat and have been in 19 countries. Travel is in my blood. We purchased a 41′ Diesel Pusher Motor Coach (MC) so that we could travel across the United States anytime we wanted.
It was December 2002 and we were experiencing some very cold weather with a lot of snow. My wife commented that she was tired of all of the cold and snow. There was a blizzard headed our way and was due the next day. I suggested we head south.
Since we wanted to be able to travel at a moments notice, we kept the Motor Coach loaded with everything we need with the exception of some of our clothes. We carried some of our clothes we needed out to the motor home. Since we don’t like to travel by night we spent the night at home.
Our Trip Begins:
The next day we woke up and got into the Motor Coach (MC) and headed south on I65. We did not yet know where we were going, just that we were heading south. MLM allowed us to do this.
Dianne had several Travel Books in the MC to help decide good places to vacation, and also a book of Flea Markets.
Since we were in MLM, we were not tied down to an office. Our MC was our office. All we needed was a cell phone and a laptop computer to conduct our business.
We decided to head to Destin Florida where the company had a 58′ Hateras Yacht named the Platinum Plus II. Each of the Platinum level Directors could use the Yacht for one week per year. It came with a Captain to take us where ever we wanted to go. Since we were Platinum Directors, we decided to take advantage of that perk.
But first we had to make a stop at Lake Cumberlin Kentucky to spend a couple nights at the Platinum Plus I. This was 85′ long, 3,800 sq. ft. Summerset House boat the company made available one Week per year to all of the Platinums. Since it was December, and the boat was not being used, we simply used the Houseboat as a place to spend a couple of days eating, sleeping and watching TV. It was a luxury Hotel room for free. It was not really nicer than our MC but it was different.
It was very cold, but because the local fishing guide was not very busy at that time of year, we chartered his fishing boat. Dianne caught the only fish that day. It was a 15lb 3oz Striped Bass. Because fishing was so bad, and because the guide had no other charters for the next day, he offered to let us fish another day for free.
It was really cold. We would sit in the cabin where it was heated and watch the lines out the window. We caught one fish that day. Since Dianne caught the fish the day before, this fish was mine. As it turned out it was a 15lb 6oz Striped Bass. (My fish was bigger than hers 🙂
It bothered me that I could not come up with a way to write the Fishing off my taxes so I recruited the guide into my business, Making that a business meeting.
The next night was spent in Destin FL. We found a flea market there and worked it for about three weeks. We enrolled several new distributors and found someone to take over the flea market for us. They earned 10% commissions on all of the products they moved, and as their upline Platinums we earned 20% override commissions on their sales. Is this industry great or what?
Our next stops was Ocala Fl. We found a flea market there and built a business and trained someone to take over that location, again paying us 20% on all of their sales.
Next we went to the Tampa Bay area and spend about 6 weeks and build a business at three different flea markets there.
Next we headed further south and stopped to build a business At a flea market in Fort Myers FL.
Dianne decided she would like to visit the Florida Keys. We headed to Key Largo to park the MC and drove through the keys to Key West. We towed our Lincoln Town Car on a 16′ trailer behind the MC. We went snorkeling at a few places along the way.
While in Key West, I got a phone call from another Platinum Distributor who was having a big Regional Convention in Las Angeles and asked if I could attend and be one of the speakers. We had about three weeks notice, and since we did not have a J.O.B. holding us back, we agreed to attend the meeting.
Now if you look at a map, it is really not that far from Key West to Las Angeles. However there was something in our way called the Gulf of Mexico. So we had to drive around that, which added a few days to our drive.
In the mean time, speaking to another Platinum friend of ours we learned that they had put together a cruise with about 35 people in their organization. The cruise was leaving from Galveston Texas. We had them add two more people to the group and we parked our MC at the docks and spent the next few days on the cruise.
After the cruise we headed on to LA. At the meeting we were asked by several different people how long would be staying in LA. We honestly told them we didn’t know. We had not planned that far in advance.
After a few days in LA, we decided to head to Las Vegas. We spent a week in Vegas and then decided to head back to Indiana.
We were driving east on I70 headed for Indiana and Dianne was looking in her Travel Book for places to stop along the way. She said to me, “Colorado Springs looks like a neat place to visit, but it is out of our way.” I said, “What do you mean out of our way. All we have to do is turn right at Denver.”
We turned right at Denver and headed toward Colorado Springs. We found nice MC Resort near Cheyenne Mt. found a flea market and spend several weeks there building our business. We found someone there who built a huge business and became a Gold Distributor (second highest pay level).
We then headed north to Denver. We spent four months there in Golden Colorado, just outside of Denver. We build a huge business there at the Mile High Flea Market and also build a Gold Director business in that area.
By the time we got back to Indiana, we had 10 flea markets going on every weekend across the country while we were doing whatever we wanted to do, and the people at those 10 flea markets were earning 10% and paying us 20% upline commissions time 10. We could not have done any of this if we had had a J.O.B. Don’t feel too sorry for them. I taught them to duplicate what I was doing and many of them were able to earn six figure income while letting others work their flea markets for them.
While being away from home all but 45 days in 2003, we Did not miss a paycheck. Each Wednesday morning at about 3:00 a.m. our paycheck was electronically deposited into Our bank account.
Why I can’t have a J.O.B. – Why I am unemployable:
~I can’t have someone telling me when to get up in the morning and what to do with my day. I sleep until I am done and wake of natural causes. I don’t have an alarm clock. Alarm clocks are for people who need to wake up before they are done sleeping.
~I can’t have someone deciding if and when I can take a vacation.
~I can’t have someone else deciding how much money I can make.
~If I decide to leave tomorrow to spend a week at Yellowstone National Park I don’t want to need to ask permission.
Now if your goals and dreams include going to a J.O.B. five days a week, then you could not choose the lifestyle I have chosen. The good news is that you get to make the choice and decide what is right For you.
If you are successful, you get to do what you want to do when you want to do it. If that included having a J.O.B. then so be it. If you want a full time J.O.B. and a part time MLM, there are many to choose from. If you would prefer more time freedom, contact me and I will try to help. I wish you the very best. Rick – Paying it Forward
